Joint Estimation of Attenuation and Emission Images from PET Scans
نویسندگان
چکیده
In modern PET scanners, image reconstruction is performed sequentially in two steps regardless of the reconstruction method: 1. Attenuation correction factor computation (ACF) from transmission scans, 2. Emission image reconstruction using the computed ACFs. This reconstruction scheme does not use all the information in the transmission and emission scans. Post-injection transmission scans contain emission contamination which includes information about emission parameters. Conversely emission scans contain information about the attenuating medium. To use all the available information, we propose a joint estimation approach that estimates the attenuation map and the emission image from these two scans. The penalized-likelihood objective function is nonconvex for this problem. We propose an algorithm based on paraboloidal surrogates that alternates between emission and attenuation parameters and is guaranteed to monotonically decrease the objective function.

متن کاملAttenuation correction in myocardial perfusion SPECT using sequential transmission - emission scanning with 99mTc [Persain]
Introduction: Nowadays, Imaging of the myocardial perfusion (MPI) using the single photon emission tomography (SPET) in the diagnosis of coronary artery disease, especially myocardial ischemia, is of great importance. In contrast to the coronary artery angiography, MPI is non-invasive, less expensive and more physiological. Unfortunately, this image is affected by the some artifacts. Thes...

UNLABELLED Misregistration between attenuation and emission images causes artifactual abnormalities on cardiac PET images that result in false-positive defects. This study determines the frequency and mechanisms of misregistration artifacts, identifies their predictors, and validates a method for their routine clinical identification, prevention, or correction. Introduction: Magnetic Resonance (MR) imaging has emerged as a valuable tool in radiation treatment (RT) planning as well as Positron Emission Tomography (PET) imaging owing to its superior soft-tissue contrast. Due to the fact that there is no direct transformation from voxel intensity in MR images into electron density, itchr('39')s crucial to generate a pseudo-CT (Computed Tomography) image ...
متن کاملMR-guided joint reconstruction of activity and attenuation in brain PET-MR
With the advent of time-of-flight (TOF) PET scanners, joint maximum-likelihood reconstruction of activity and attenuation (MLAA) maps has recently regained attention for the estimation of PET attenuation maps from emission data. However, the estimated attenuation and activity maps are scaled by unknown scaling factors. We recently demonstrated that in hybrid PET-MR, the scaling issue of this al...
